- Date:
- Time: Time depends on the day
- Location: ProDemos - Huis voor democratie en rechtstaat
Every year on Aug. 15, the official end of World War II in the Kingdom of the Netherlands is commemorated and all the victims of the war against Japan and the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies are remembered. In August, ProDemos offers the walk “Political The Hague during the Second World War” five times.
About the walk
During this walk you will discover how the Netherlands was governed during World War II. Led by an expert guide, you will see important places from that time. You will find out how the state system of the 1930s was abolished and the Netherlands was governed under German authority. The guide also discusses what happened to parliament, the government and the queen, and what the term “Brown Prince's Day” means. At key locations, such as Noordeinde Palace, Hotel Des Indes and the King's Cabinet, you will hear what exactly happened there between 1940 and 1945.
