Decolonial Indonesia-Netherlands Commemoration

  • Date: 16 August
  • Time: 19:30 - 21:00
  • Location: Het Monument Indië-Nederland op het Olympiaplein

The Decolonial Indonesia Netherlands Commemoration aims to create space for (social) dialogue, connection, and healing. Every year on August 15th, the Netherlands commemorates the end of World War II in the former Dutch East Indies. The decolonial commemoration also reflects on this, but commemorates more. "We commemorate the colonial period, World War II, the reoccupation war, and the neo-colonial period that followed. That's the period from 1949 to the present," says initiator Benjamin Caton. The decolonial commemoration takes place on August 16th, the day after the end of the war in the former Dutch East Indies and the day before Indonesia's declaration of independence.

This event is in Dutch.
