A theatre performance about women in resistance during WWII (ages 14 and up)

  • Date: 02 May
  • Time: 14:00 - 15:00
  • Location: Bibliotheek Moerwijk

Please note: this is a Dutch-language event.

In this theatre performance, Frédérique Arnold explores the female perspective of the resistance during World War II.

About the performance

As the granddaughter of a grandfather who survived the war and as the daughter of a UN veteran, the male narrative has always dominated war stories within the family. *De Lijst* focuses precisely on women.

How do we write history? And how do we keep alive stories that have never been written down or passed on? In this solo performance, Frédérique dives into the past through her great-aunt Riet and searches for the role women played 80 years ago. *De Lijst* is about the downplaying of what these wives, mothers, housewives, and students did out of a sense of naturalness to help others. A quest to meet these heroes before their stories are lost forever.

Audience reactions:

“A beautiful performance! Impressive and timely. Take it all over the country. Isn't the Theater VU-Griffioen a beautiful venue for this performance?!” – Seen at Theater De Liefde, Haarlem.

“A beautiful and powerful plea for appreciation of the role thousands of women played in the resistance during the Second World War.” - Seen at Het Hornemannhuis, Eindhoven.
