Experience Shelter: Experience Shelter: A VR documentary about Ukraine in an underground space

  • Date: 16 June - 20 June
  • Location: Universiteit Leiden

This VR documentary features a brief moment of flashlight and emotionally charged scenes about the impact of war. Be careful if you are sensitive to this content!

Shelter is a powerful and immersive VR documentary, directed by Sjors Swierstra (Netherlands) and co-directed by Ivanna Khitsinska (Ukraine), that takes you into the experience of seeking protection during wartime air raids in Ukraine. The documentary is screened in a specially built underground container, which evokes the feeling of being in a real shelter.

The Scopiclabs-produced experience is designed to be viewed with a VR headset, individually or in small groups. You will hear personal stories and realistic soundscapes that offer a deeply moving perspective on daily life during conflict. Headsets and noise-canceling headphones will be provided on site so you can get totally immersed.

This special screening on campus is part of an international tour. Shelter has previously screened at leading festivals such as SXSW and Docville, where it was praised for its emotional depth and innovative format. Click here for the video promotion of Shelter.

This event is part of the Just Peace Festival.
