Café Europa on the danger of Russia and America
The world as we know it is breaking apart before our eyes. While Putin is waging an unprecedentedly bloody war, Trump is increasingly revealing himself as an enemy of Europe. And yet it seems to affect us little. The terraces are full and political The Hague is mostly preoccupied with itself. How long can we afford this attitude? And what if things really go wrong?
In a special edition of the podcast Café Europa, Joris Luyendijk speaks with Hajar Yagkoubi and Stefan de Vries about Europe caught between two fires. Joris makes clear how vulnerable we in Europe are — militarily, economically, and digitally. But how do we move to action instead of looking away or being paralysed by fear?
Joris also talks about his visits to Ukraine and how the war has permanently changed his view of the world. Why is the future of Europe being decided there? And what can we learn from Ukraine to stand on our own two feet?
- Joris Luyendijk — writer and anthropologist who advocates for the fate of Ukrainians.
- Hajar Yagkoubi — host of the Café Europa podcast and presenter and speaker for, among others, NPO Radio 1 and Eva.
- Stefan de Vries — Europe commentator for Eva, BNR, Pauw & De Wit, Haagsch College, and the Café Europa podcast.
This evening aims to show how, through small actions, we ourselves have influence over our geopolitical fate. That is why a minimum of €2,000 from the proceeds will go to Ukraine for interceptor drones capable of shooting down Shaheds. And with your help, that amount could grow much larger!
Café Europa is an initiative of Haagsch College and Studio Europa Maastricht.
