On Monday 2 March, Nieuwspoort presents The Great Municipal Debate. Six lead candidates, representing six political parties from six major Dutch municipalities, will debate the key issues of the upcoming municipal elections.

Participants:

  • Sofyan Mbarki (Labour Party / PvdA, Amsterdam)

  • Venita Dada-Anthonij (D66, Utrecht)

  • Lesley van Hilten (VVD, Almere)

  • Jeroen Berends (CDA, Doetinchem)

The debate will focus on the housing crisis, local democracy, and the so-called “ravine year” for municipal finances, referring to the major financial challenges municipalities are expected to face.

Eric de Kluis, editor-in-chief of Binnenlands Bestuur, will open the evening with a short introduction on the key choices confronting local politicians.

The debate will be moderated by Nynke de Zoeten and Joost Bekendam. The event is organised by the Democracy and Debate Committee, in cooperation with Binnenlands Bestuur. Don’t miss it!
