120 BPM - World Aids Day

  • Date: 01 December
  • Time: 18:30
  • Location: Filmhuis Den Haag

While AIDS had been claiming victims for 10 years, following New York's example, branches of ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) were also set up in Europe to demand attention for medicines and education.

In 120 BPM, Nathan joins the activists of ACT UP Paris, where he meets Sean. Together they campaign against social and political indifference to AIDS. Sean's strong and lively personality does not leave Nathan unmoved, but soon their love is overshadowed by the protests and the disease.

120 BPM received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival and was awarded the Grand Prix, which was also called the “Palme du Cœur” for the occasion. The film, starring actress Adèle Haenel (La fille inconnue), also won the FIPRESCI prize and the Queer Palm. Director Robin Campillo previously made Eastern Boys and was himself involved in ACT UP Paris.
