Talk: Serbian Protests Then and Now - ENFF

  • Date: 08 November
  • Time: 16:30
  • Location: Filmhuis Den Haag

Following the international premiere of "One Man Avalanche" at the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival, director Slobodanka Radun joins us to reflect on Serbia’s political landscape, 25 years after its people thought they had welcomed democracy. Today, protests have returned, incited by actions of a government whose key figures date back to the 1990s. The discussion explores how protest techniques and tactics have evolved, how the government’s responses have shifted, and, perhaps most importantly, how the international community’s reaction waned. We also consider how Radun’s filmmaking offers insight into the resilience of civil society and the power of cinema and other art forms to inspire uprisings.
