Theater De Vaillant presents the performance Boy Ecury during The Hague Freedom Weeks, a moving performance about the life and courage of Aruban resistance hero Boy Ecury. The monologue, written by Paulette Smit, will be performed in both Papiamento and Dutch.
The story
Boy Ecury left Aruba for the Netherlands at a young age to study. During World War II, he joined the resistance, driven by his unwavering belief in freedom and justice. His actions demonstrated courage and sacrifice, but ultimately led to his arrest and execution on the Waalsdorpervlakte in 1944. This year we commemorate 80 years since his death and celebrate 80 years of freedom within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
A performance with impact
Boy Ecury brings to life the story of a forgotten hero and invites reflection on freedom, sacrifice and courage. The performance in Papiamento ensures that this important history is also heard within the Aruban community.
With Pierre Sully Jourdain as Boy Ecury. Text and direction: Paulette Smit.
The performance includes an aftertalk with the makers.
