Theater De Vaillant presents “The Children of the Hollandse Schouwburg” during The Hague Freedom Weeks, an interactive musical theater performance that immersively introduces children in grades 6, 7 and 8 to a true story from World War II.

The story

In occupied Amsterdam, a secret rescue operation took place that saved the lives of hundreds of children. From the Hollandse Schouwburg, where Jewish families were waiting to be deported, children were taken to hiding addresses via a crèche. In this performance, children discover how courageous people silently made a difference in times of injustice.

A performance with impact

This educational experience makes children think interactively about freedom, identity and the value of solidarity. The story reminds us that freedom cannot be taken for granted, and that no one should be excluded - no matter who you are. The performance invites conversation and reflection on how together we can create an inclusive society.
