Murals in The Hague in the spirit of NATO summit
The NATO summit will take place in The Hague on 24 and 25 June. In the run-up to this moment, the municipality of The Hague, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NATO summit have challenged young artists to capture the mission of the alliance in a 3D image: protecting a billion people.
Competition
Under the theme "Maintaining our Shared Future", young, ambitious makers from the Netherlands and abroad submitted their designs for a commemorative mural. From dozens of entries, a professional jury – including Dutch experts Michiel Corver, director of The Hague Street Art and Rebecca van Leeuwen, founder of Rabarber and board member of Wijkoverleg Statenkwartier – selected not one, but two winning designs.
From Vilnius, to Washington to The Hague
This is the third annual mural competition to mark a NATO summit and underline the alliance’s crucial role in protecting a billion people in Europe and North America. The city hosting the NATO summit will receive the winning mural. Jan van Zanen unveiled the mural on Stadhouderslaan in The Hague today.
'With the help of street artist Tobias Becker Hoff, both designs came together in this magnificent mural within the theme ‘Maintaining our Shared Future’. A keepsake from the summit where we collectively stood up for our freedom and where we celebrated the wealth of our free culture.'-Mayor Jan van Zanen
