Africa Everywhere
From 4 to 18 July 2026, The Hague African Festival presents the African Expo: Africa Everywhere at Amare, The Hague.
This exhibition shows how African culture, identity, and heritage are visible in the daily life of the African diaspora in the Netherlands.
Theme: Africa Everywhere
The exhibition is part of the festival theme:
“Beyond Independence: Diaspora, Identity and the Future in the Netherlands.”
Within this framework, the central question is:
How do African influences live on in daily life, in the city, and across different generations?
Focus 2026: Fashion
In this edition, the emphasis is on fashion.
By that, we mean not only clothing, but also:
- Hairstyles and haircuts
- Fabrics and patterns
- Accessories and jewelry
- Ways of self-expression
Fashion shows where people come from, and how identity is made visible in the past and today.
Made by young people from The Hague
The exhibition consists of artworks developed by young people (and older adults) from various neighborhoods in The Hague, under the guidance of Stichting Topaze.
During workshops and creative programs, participants work on:
- Their own stories
- Themes surrounding identity and roots
- Collaborative art projects
The photos give an impression of this process: young people at work, developing, and collaborating.
On-site experience
The African Expo is not only to see, but also to experience.
During the expo you can, among other things:
- Taking selfies in an African hair salon setting
- Get your hair braided or styled on Saturday, July 4.

The African Expo is being realized in collaboration with:
- Topaze Foundation (guidance and education)
- Amare The Hague (location and presentation)
