At 77, Tereza, born and raised in an industrial town on the edge of the Amazon, suddenly receives the order to leave her home. The state forces her to relocate to a so-called “senior colony,” a place where the elderly are expected to “enjoy” their final years so that the younger generation can fully dedicate itself to growth and productivity. But Tereza refuses to submit to this inhumane measure. Instead of giving up her freedom, she embarks on a clandestine boat journey through the Amazon. What follows is a voyage across lush landscapes filled with obstacles, unexpected encounters, and a growing realization that freedom knows no age.

The Blue Trail is a rebellious road movie by Gabriel Mascaro (Neon Bull) about aging, resistance, and the right to keep dreaming. The Brazilian film blends social urgency with a sensuous, visually rich storytelling style, showing that growing older can take on a very different face. The Blue Trail won the Silver Bear (Grand Jury Prize) at this year’s Berlinale and was internationally acclaimed.
