  • Date: 24 September
  • Time: 19:00 - 22:00
  • Location: Amare, Amare Studio

In commemoration of the uprising at the Zorg en Hoop plantation in Suriname on 24 September 1884, during the period of Hindustani indentured labor, 7th Gen Creatives and Amare are organizing a screening of Naya Daur – 150 Years of Hindustani Emancipation. This musical documentary tells the story of the Hindustani community in Suriname and the Netherlands, from the arrival of the first indentured laborers in 1873 to 2023.

Through music, dance, and personal reflections, Naya Daur shows how Hindustanis have contributed for generations to social justice, cultural development, and societal progress. The documentary intertwines iconic songs from Hindustani history with stories of emancipation, identity, and collective strength.

The film provides the starting point for a broader conversation with speakers from various migrant communities in The Hague, each engaged in their own way with questions of emancipation and resistance to institutional racism and other forms of colonial legacy. Together, we explore how these histories connect us in a shared struggle for justice.

This principle holds that our choices and actions must have a sustainable impact up to seven generations after us. From this vision, 7th Gen Creatives initiates and produces art projects connected to social struggle, decolonization, and the emancipation of colonized communities.
