Human Rights Festival 2025 - The Right to Life for Every Being

  • Date: 07 December
  • Time: 13:30 - 18:00
  • Location: Grote Kerk Den Haag

Sunday, 7 December 2025 | Grote Kerk, The Hague | Free admission, registration recommended

Human rights are like oxygen — you need them to live. During the Human Rights Festival, we reflect on what may be the most fundamental human right of all: the right to life, liberty, and security, as stated in Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Discover, experience, and celebrate together how we can strengthen this right — for both people and nature.

The Right to Life for All Beings

How self-evident is the right to life, really? What does it mean for people without residence permits, or for nature itself? Increasingly, lawyers, artists, and activists are also advocating for the rights of nature — rights for rivers, animals, forests, and oceans. After all, without a healthy environment, there can be no life, freedom, or security.
During the Human Rights Festival, we explore these themes through dialogue, art, music, and workshops.

Programme

The 2025 programme offers space for dialogue, art, music, and action. Highlights include:

  • Lecture by Jan van de Venis: On the rights of nature and universal human rights.

  • Workshop – Rights of Nature: Experience how you can defend the rights of nature and give your piece of nature a voice.

  • Vocal group KORALI: Ukrainian choral performance about love and nature.

  • Dialogue in The Hague: Join a guided conversation on the rights of nature before the festival begins.

  • Write for Rights by Amnesty International: Write a letter, change a life.

  • Dabke dance workshop: We’ll close the festival by dancing together.

The full programme will be announced closer to the event.
