Boys

  • Date: 01 November
  • Time: 20:30 - 21:30
  • Location: Het Nationale Theater, Zaal 3

This is a Dutch-language show

Boys is a passionate immersion into the work of the controversial filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini. An equally extravagant and intimate monologue about longing for love and sexuality.

In this performance, recently graduated actor Thor Braun dives wholeheartedly into Pasolini’s work. Drawing from his own experiences as a gay man, he engages with Pasolini’s poems, novels, and films, all imbued with passionate desires: young, naked, muscular men bathing in the Italian midday heat, or wandering through dry fields under the chirping of cicadas. Through letters, scenes, and plenty of paint, Thor explores how Pasolini’s love frenzy relates to himself and to the present day. What void is Pasolini trying to fill? And how do you relate to an artist whose work still raises critical questions in 2024?

Thor Braun has appeared from a young age in film and television, including the role of Chris in the successful TV series Oogappels. In 2025, he graduated from the ArtEZ Theatre School. Boys is his coming-out as a theater maker, in which he showcases his love for visually striking and shamelessly emotional theater. The final direction is by Char Li Chung.

"The young actor promises fifty delightful minutes that will make you wish you could be part of the performance." - Theaterkrant, critic’s choice
