Children of the Independence of 1975 - 50 years Srefidensi
- Date: 04 June - 07 September
- Location: Museon-Omniversum
Museon-Omniversum in The Hague will present the exhibition Children of the Independence of 1975 from 9 November 2025 to 6 September 2026.
To mark fifty years of independence, Museon-Omniversum in The Hague is showcasing Children of the Independence, an exhibition that explores how Surinamese primary school pupils experienced their country’s independence in 1975. They look back on this historic moment and share their memories. Many of them now live in the Netherlands. Their personal stories offer a unique perspective on the meaning of independence, both then and now.
The exhibition features a rotating selection of physical works from 1975. The remaining pieces are included in a digital flipbook in the gallery, together with drawings and essays created in 2025. These works show how new generations experience their connection to Suriname, and how they envision the country’s future.
The exhibition highlights themes such as diversity, responsibility, and connectedness.
