Pride The Hague: Hasan Gök + The Blue Caftan
- Date: 11 May
- Time: 19:30 - 22:00
- Location: Theater en filmhuis Dakota
This film screening is part of Pride The Hague (May 8-16), a week in which communities from The Hague come together to create space for LGBTQIA+ stories, visibility, and connection. With a program full of culture, encounters, and conversation, Pride is dedicated to being able to be yourself and learning to understand each other better.
At Dakota, we are also happy to contribute to this; during this special Pride evening, we are presenting a ‘double bill’! Two standalone programs centering on being queer and Muslim.
This program was created in collaboration with COC Haaglanden.
Hasan Gök
Hasan Gök is a spoken word artist, poet, and presenter who tells personal and often unheard stories from his multifaceted identity. Unheard stories about a diversity of worlds that come together in his own life: son of a Turkish father and a Kurdish mother, raised in Dutch society, queer and Muslim, a lover of both the spotlights of the stage and the silence of the night. During this Pride program, Hasan will deliver a presentation he wrote during Ramadan. In it, he reflects on the speed of daily reality and his desire to slow down. His presentation is supported by visuals and sound.
The Blue Caftan (2023)
Halim runs a traditional caftan shop with his wife Mina in the medina of Salé, Morocco. Throughout their entire marriage, they have lived with a secret: Halim's homosexuality, which he has learned to suppress. However, Mina's illness and the arrival of an apprentice in the business disrupt this fragile balance. United in their love, they help each other face their fears.
In addition to The Blue Caftan in this program, the documentary Petit Fille will also be screened at our venue during Pride The Hague, followed by a discussion on gender identity.
