The Hague and Slavery Walk

  • Date:
  • Time: 14:00
  • Location: Rijksmuseum de Gevangenpoort

Walk along historical sites such as the former Ministry of Colonies or the site where Anton de Kom did research for his book We Slaves of Suriname.

Many think of the history of slavery in the Netherlands in terms of trading city Amsterdam or port city Middelburg, but The Hague played a central role in the establishment, enforcement and abolition of slavery as early as the 17th century. Traces of this history are still visible in the streets of The Hague. Several locations remind us to this day of the slavery past and are part of this guided city walk.
