The Great Generations Dialogue
- Date: 30 October
- Time: 16:00 - 17:30
- Location: Speakers' Corner, Haagse Hogeschool
Please note that this event will be held in Dutch.
How do younger and older generations view the major issues of our time? Affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and social security are high on the agenda for both. During this symposium, students and seniors will engage in dialogue: where do they differ — and where do they meet?
With contributions from Joost van Hoof (Professor of Urban Ageing), Ocke Siertsema (Public Administration student and former LSVb board member), and Catherine Keyl, we’ll explore how generations can strengthen and learn from each other.
While the recent election results form a timely backdrop, this conversation goes deeper — about how we can build a more connected society together. An inspiring encounter: not against each other, but with each other.
Participation is free of charge, though registration is appreciated.
About the speakers
Joost van Hoof is Professor of Urban Ageing at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. His work focuses on highlighting what older people can still do, rather than what they can’t — even when participation is challenging. His research explores how we can contribute to improving the quality of daily life for older adults in the big city.
Catherine Keyl was one of the first women in the Netherlands to work as a reporter. For years she travelled the world, interviewing people in slums as well as presidents, rebels, and human rights defenders. Later, she moved into television studios, presenting talk shows for AVRO, RTL, TROS, MAX, and EO. She now writes a weekly column for De Telegraaf’s “Vrouw” section and is a regular guest on various TV programs.
Ocke Siertsema is a Public Administration and Governance student at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (with a minor in migration issues) and former vice-chair of the Dutch Student Union (LSVb). With experience in political and administrative environments and student representation, she brings a fresh and critical perspective on the challenges her generation faces.
